Dreampark promotes open standards and better graphics
Despite the ongoing debate about middleware standards, a number of vendors are simply building on open standards from the web world, even supporting features such as SVG or Scalable Vector Graphics. One such is Dreampark, a small Swedish company that cheekily claims its Dreamgallery solution is “the most deployed IPTV middleware in Europe” — by virtue of the fact that they have more operators, rather than end users.

User generated video fails to generate advertising revenue
YouTube now streams a billions video clips a day. User generated material accounts for over 40% of all online video streams but produces no more than 4% of the advertising revenue for online video. That is unlikely to change over the next five years, according to a report from informitv partners TDG Research. The main value seems to be in cultivating an audience for commercial material.

Global Digital Broadcast opens PlayTV packages
The grandly named Global Digital Broadcast is a startup company based in Brighton that is entering the market to offer the first open, consumer broadband television service in the United Kingdom. PlayTV offers a number of channels through a hybrid broadcast and broadband set-top box.

Teletext Extra Juice improves interactive user experience
Teletext Extra is a new interactive service available for Freeview digital terrestrial television in the United Kingdom. It has been launched by Teletext and InView Interactive in response to the technical limitations of existing digital text services. Based on new software known as Juice, it is faster, easier to navigate and supports much better graphics.

Ofcom encourages investment in next generation networks
The chief executive of the communications regulator in the United Kingdom has underlined the importance of developing next generation high-speed broadband networks. Ed Richards said that Ofcom favoured a regulatory environment that allows and encourages operators to make risky investments for the potential benefit of their shareholders.
